I broke the cot!

Ok, so I didn't ACTUALLY break it.

But I thought I did. At 5am this morning.

We have Lilibeth sleeping on a sidecar cot arrangement, where her cot is in our room, with one side removed, and our bed is pushed up against it. This means, at night when she wants a feed, I can simply roll over, latch her on, doze until she's finished and then roll back again.

Last night I did just this. (Quite a few times actually, since she decided to wake up 6 times in 6 hours.)

The second time she woke up, at 4.45, I rolled over so I was partially on the cot, then lay there dozing whilst she fed. All of a sudden,

CLUNK.

I heard it as I felt the mattress move beneath me. I lay there, frozen, but inside I was panicking.

Oh my god, I've broken the cot. What am I going to do? We'll have to get a new one. Has my sister still got the cot she offered us? If not we'll have to buy one. With what money?

All this was running through my head, I desperately wanted to move (lest it collapse or something) but I knew if I moved before she'd finished, she'd only start yelling at me.

After what seemed like an eternity (with me trying to keep perfectly still), she settled, and I GENTLY rolled off. I sat up to assess the damage, and sure enough, the bottom corner of the mattress was about an inch lower than the top.

Bugger.

I turned to Dev in the semi-darkness, and shook him (not gently, might I add) telling him he needed to wake up as I'd broken the cot. To be fair to the guy, he jumped up and came to help me inspect the damage, bright eyed and bushy tailed (surprisingly so for 5am!)

As it turned out, I'd knocked the cot with my knee when I'd rolled over, and the base joist had slipped out of it's socket. We slipped it back in and it was fine (whew!)

Dev says it's because we haven't got the one side on it, so he's going to tie the legs together to stop it happening again!
